This is a very fine compilation introducing you to some of the best rock n roll and folk rock bands of the '70s. Exadaktylos, the band of the still active "frank zappa influenced" artist Dimitris Poulikakos. Mpourmpoulia and Damon & Fidias the two bands with whom Pavlos Sidiropoulos (another legendary rock n roll figure) made his first steps. Despoina Glezou, the most notorious female voice started from the band Nostradamos (also featuring on this comp). Peloma Bokiou, wonderful psychedelic/folk rock band with frontam Vlasis Bonatsos. Socrated Drunk the Conium, the most famous and unique rock band with english lyrics, a mixture of progressive/rock n roll/heavy rock and greek folk. Nikolas Asimos the most radical and subversive figure of all. The Forminx featuring Vaggelis Papathanasiou. And many more, you'll love this double album if you're an appasionate of the '70s.

Manolis Aggelakis was born in 1961 in athens. He went to london to study as a sound engineer, and so he became one. He also was a guitarist and singer and along he produced the albums of a greek surf rock band named Invisible Surfers. In 2000 he will release his first album "Stamatina" and after this he would become a member of a very interesting experimental blues band called Illegal Operation. In 2006 along with the Beasts (ta Thyria) he will realized tis album. The songs are in greek lyrics and the music has a mood influenced a lot by Tom Waits and the americana of Calexico, all this with a "jazzy airing". While reading about this band i also saw comments saying they were also influences by the Ioanian Islands' ballad (western greece), something i cannot comfirm as i dont have a clue about ioanian islands' ballad, im only sure that sometimes the american style guitar gets together with a subgenre of greek folk. Recently Manolis Aggelakis & his Beasts released a new album named "What the shades do at night (ty kanun e skies ty nyhta)".Ο Μανώλης Αγγελάκης γεννήθηκε το 1961 στην αθήνα, πήγε στο λονδίνο για σπουδές ηχοληψιας και έτσι εκτός απο μουσικός (κιθαρίστας, φωνή) έγινε παραγωγός και τεχνικός ήχου (ηχολήπτης, μίκτης, κτλ, μαζί με τον Στάθη Ιωάννου κάνανε τους δίσκους των Invisible Surfers). Το 2000 έβγαλε το δίσκο "Σταματίνα" και έπειτα αποτέλεσε μέλος μιας ιδιαίτερης για μένα μπάντας ονόματι Illegal Operation πειραματιζόμενει με βάση τη blues. Το 2006 με τα Θηρία βγάζει τον παρών δίσκο, ένας ελληνόφωνος δίσκος επιρρεασμένος φανερά απο το νωχελικό και περίεργο μπλουζ του Tom Waits όπως επίσης και απο την americana των Calexico και με "τζαζιάρικο "αέρα". Διαβάζωντας απο δω και απο 'κει αναέρεται επίσης ότι υπάρχουν και στοιχεία απο Επτανησιακή μπαλάντα, πράμα το οποίο δε μπορώ να διευκρινήσω η να επιβαιβαιώσω μιας και δε κατέχω το θέμα, μπορώ να πω όμως που σίγουρα η κιθάρα του συναντιέται με το ελληνικό "έντεχνο" στοιχείο σε μερικά κομμάτια. Πρόσφατα έβγαλαν νεα δουλεια με το όνομα "Τι κάνουν οι σκιές τη νύχτα".
